A Chula Vista group says it has gathered enough signatures to force a vote on whether the city attorney, currently appointed by the city’s mayor and City Council, should become an elected post.

The group calling itself Chula Vistans for Public Representation plan to submit more than 20,000 signatures to City Hall this afternoon as part of a petition to place an elected city attorney ballot initiative on the ballot, allowing the measure to go before a public vote.
