Mayor Jerry Sanders played up the stepped-up efforts to fund stormwater pollution prevention today, saying his budget proposal will set aside more funding for sweeping streets and unclogging drains than previous years’ financial plans.

Sanders said his budget will add $18 million to preventing stormwater pollution including:

  • a $3.7 million increase in funding for sweeping street.
  • $6.2 million more for removing debris from storm drains and sewer pipes.
  • $2 million more for monitoring water quality in local sloughs.
  • $2.5 million more for educational outreach.
