On Thursday, the Clairemont Town Council will consider a proposal to move two of the area’s middle schools.

It calls for moving the burgeoning Creative Performing Media Arts Middle School to the site of the current Ray Kroc Middle School, which has only 200 students. Those 200 students, and their campus, would in turn be moved to another vacant school site.

The proposal is part of San Diego Unified School District’s efforts to reconfigure its public schools to meet local needs — and thus reduce the number of students who choose to attend a campus other than their local neighborhood school. The district spends $20 million a year on various busing programs, and hopes to tap some of that money to make up for shrinking revenue caused by declining enrollment.
