Mayor Jerry Sanders lent his symbolic support to political consultant Laurie Black’s candidacy for port commissioner.
Sanders joins a chorus of city officials who are backing Black, who was edged out of a seat on the port board in March. Four City Council members nominated her yesterday, and a fifth supported her during March’s deliberations.
Only the City Council, and not the mayor, can appoint the city’s delegates to the Port Commission. The council’s vote will likely come next month, after attorney Victor Vilaplana officially steps down.
