Monday, May 7, 2007 | After recently reading articles by both Carl DeMaio and Steve Francis as well as others, it has become increasingly clear that San Diego and San Diego county have a problem with funding — there isn’t enough of it! But being the “cheap” residents that many of you are, you continually blame (take your pick), the pension crisis, the union problems — police and fire, the obvious waste/fraud/abuse in city and county government — but at the same time some of you want a new library, all pot holes fixed, more police, more fire stations, spotless parks, expanded services for the elderly, more services for the children, Balboa Park, pristine water, it is a very long list!

San Diego is known nation-wide as being cheap — low wages and basically a tourist trap! When I say cheap I mean we rely on outside sources for our water, our power, and outside tourist dollars (and the military) to try and keep us afloat! When is San Diego step up to the plate and begin paying for what we think we deserve?

It may come as a horrific surprise to some but San Diego is no longer the sleepy little Navy retirement village it was back in the 50’s and 60’s — it’s a big city now and some things we are just going to have to pay for or some of you can continue to complain which will get all of us nowhere!
