My overall theme today has really been about listening — who gets listened to and who doesn’t. I’ve fielded complaints about the powerful who only listen selectively. I reported news from scientists who should be listened to more.

I want to take this last post to seek more input from Café readers.

First, San Diego EarthWorks, along with the City of San Diego Environmental Services Department, hosts an annual awards reception on June 7. The city gives its annual Recycling and Waste Diversion Awards (this year given by Mayor Sanders), the Air Pollution Control District gives a Clean Air Award (County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price does the honors), and Donna Frye will be presenting San Diego EarthWorks’ modestly named E.A.R.T.H Awards (Environmental Action and Restoration That Helps.)

If you know of a worthy and under-recognized environmental project or change that someone had made (big or small) or young conservation volunteer, please nominate them here.

If you’d like to attend the event, find more info here.

Second, SDEW will be hosting its annual self-guided “GreenBuilt Tour” the last weekend in September.

The tour allows people to inspect new construction and remodels, homes and businesses, each of which has implemented a range of lower-impact options.

If you’re aware of any green building sites that should be added to the tour, please have them contact me.

Anything else you’d like me to know? E-mail me. I’ll listen and also take some action as appropriate.
