National Geographic has a story this month that’s well worth reading for everyone interested in the politics, divisions and shared lives along the U.S.-Mexico border.

It’s all about the border fence, and it’s written by Charles Bowden, a noted narrator of the border and author of the book “Down by the River,” which details the risks and threats posed by the drug trade in the El Paso-Ciudad Juarez region.

In true National Geographic form, the photos of the border fence — beginning in San Diego — are stunning.
