District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis announced today that her office and the state attorney general won a $491,164 settlement against Baskin-Robbins franchisees in California for shortchanging customers of its hand-packed ice cream pints.

In a statement released today, Dumanis said that 83 percent of the 16-ounce containers reviewed throughout the state were short by 4 ounces. Such skimping amounted to false advertising, she said.

The effort included 29 county governments’ review of 416 ice cream containers at 188 Baskin-Robbins stores.
