The Chula Vista City Council voted yesterday to extend negotiations with Gaylord Entertainment and the Unified Port of San Diego until Nov. 30. The vote also allowed the city an option to prolong talks for another 90 days after the new deadline if necessary.

The city, port and Gaylord have been bargaining since last summer over the billion-dollar convention center and resort that is planned for the Chula Vista bay front. The city and port have tentatively agreed to offer $308 million in subsidies for the project.

Mayor Cheryl Cox and Councilmen John McCann, Rudy Ramirez and Jerry Rindone voted for the extension. Councilman Steve Castaneda abstained.
