Monday, May 21, 2007 | There are many reasons for a periodic drop in attendance, some which are particular to the age of the echo baby boomers, soon to bring in swells of children to the five year estimate age group again. Don’t rely on such inaccurate records that do not start at the hospitals or birthing centers. Economics will also sway for the time being the numbers, whether from new homeowners who now have money for private schools (until adjustable mortgages change that) exampled from NTC’s draw of 4500 students from the district in both charter and private schools alone!
Things will change again, as demographics are cyclical. We do not want another Rosa Parks School mistake, again! Look at the new units, whether downtown or not, as even second homes become new homes as housing cycles through the generations and with San Diego’s housing prices, those condos too, will become homes for small families.
Let the smaller schools enjoy and refine their more intimate and quality methods of teaching as many reports indicate they are best; the reason for the charter schools’ successes. And take this opportunity to repair, replace and upgrade the schools that are here. Maybe the SDUSD can learn, yet more? This is only the first test of their competency in a new administration.
