Thursday, May 24, 2007 | The news is full of reports of the city of San Diego cooperating with federal agents on fire investigations, drug investigations and other mutual aid areas. What is missing is cooperation with the feds on immigration; instead we have the chief of police making silly pronouncements about federal responsibility and keeping lines of communication.

The problem with ignoring the rule of law in an area is pretty soon the folks figure out that two can play at that game, and we get ever loosening rates of obeying the law as people pick and choose.

The government does operate at the consent of the governed.
