The City Council will consider appointing local consultant Laurie Black to the Port Commission on Tuesday.

While port appointments have sometimes featured competition between nominees, Black is the only resident to be nominated by the City Council. Council members have until Tuesday’s hearing to nominate the replacement for Commissioner Victor Vilaplana, who announced his resignation May 2.

Black was a runner-up for one of the city of San Diego’s three seats on the port panel in March, when she was edged out by Steve Cushman.

The hearing will take place at 2 p.m. at City Hall.
