San Diego Unified School Board member John de Beck today called on the school system’s chief administrative officer, Jose Betancourt, to resign. Earlier today, the U.S. Attorney’s Office announced that Betancourt had pleaded guilty to violating a federal conflict-of-interest law.
“If he can’t take care of his own ethics, what the hell is he doing running ours,” de Beck asked. “If he had any sense, he would’ve resigned long ago. If he had this on his resume, I would have never hired him, so why would I keep him now?”
Check back for more responses from the board and the district later.
