Apparently, I wasn’t just speculating that major philanthropists approached to fund the main library downtown are itching to know how much the entire project will cost.

From a 2005 report to the City Council about the cost of the project:

The Library Foundation has had promising meetings with major benefactors in San Diego who all have requested the latest cost estimates.

I don’t think it’s possible that those major benefactors have now decided they’re no longer interested in how much this thing is going to cost.
