We’ve been hearing Councilwoman Donna Frye’s name getting tossed about quite a bit in respect to the 2008 mayor’s race. So I called her today to see what she was thinking:
I think probably not, but you know what, I thought the same thing before. If someone asked me if I was going to run for mayor, I’d say no. But if there was a Sunroad II or Son of Sunroad, something that made me say ‘Oh my god,’ then I’d have to consider it.
But, she noted that same scenario played out in 2004, when she said she hopped into the race after deciding she couldn’t vote for either of the candidates — former Mayor Dick Murphy or county Supervisor Ron Roberts.
So, I asked her, who would she vote for in 2008: Mayor Jerry Sanders or businessman Steve Francis?
“See, that’s what I’m talking about,” she said. “I don’t really want to do it, but if duty calls I might.”
Frye, a Democrat, faced off against Sanders and Francis, who are Republicans, in the 2005 special election to replace Murphy.
