Tuesday, July 31, 2007 | There are two realities: Global warming and the failure of transit in this region. There is no time left to postpone addressing global warming as we watch glaciers disappear and climate change. There is also no point in continuing to spend billions on transit in this region that will not get people out of their cars. About one third of our TRANSNET tax dollars go to transit. In return we have watched transit ride share decline, subsidy go up and service deteriorate.
We can mitigate the impact of tailpipe emissions with the right transit strategy. It does exist in places like Brisbane Australia. We just do not have the will.
