The Mayor’s Office asked to delay the appointments of council candidate Carl DeMaio and others to a water and sewer oversight board, Council President Scott Peters announced this morning.

In what is normally an uncontroversial process, six council members said yesterday they opposed DeMaio’s nomination. They said Mayor Jerry Sanders’ selection of DeMaio as chairman of the Independent Rates Oversight Committee allowed him an advantage over his competitors in the District 5 race and could politicize the panel’s conclusions.

DeMaio said the opposition amounted to political retribution for the criticism he has aimed at the council.
