Monday, Aug. 6, 2007 | At last! Thank you, voiceofsandiego.org, for the facts about “goofy” as a fox school board President Luis Acle. Acle is a shifty smooth dude — scoring $1,500 a month for doing nothing as an elected school representative in our economically and academically poorest school community; making money off the NAFTA moniker; not paying past debts to individuals or the federal government; a Latino who disdains the value of school Spanish for children of Mexican descent; a Latino without sympathy for undocumented Mexican workers whose poverty drives their immigration and whose labor supports our standard of living.
But please, do not compare Acle to former school board member Ron Ottinger, whose shortcomings included living outside his district. In years on the Board of Education, Ottinger and I disagreed on many things, but neither of us was ever missing in action and we always cared deeply about shaping public education policy for the benefit of all children.
