When I was knitting together as much data as I could find for this story on the status of the downtown housing market, I received a helpful spreadsheet from RealtyTrac showing foreclosure activity by ZIP code.

(I also received a heap of ribbing from my workmates over my exclamations of “what a sweet spreadsheet!” and various other phrases conveying my excitement.)

But here’s the deal. RealtyTrac recently started offering this unique-address feature that allows us to see how many individual homes are in foreclosure. The firm sent me stats for the first half of this year broken down by ZIP code.

Here are the top five for total properties in foreclosure:

  • 92057 in Oceanside: 512 total properties
  • 91977 in Spring Valley: 304
  • 92114 in San Diego: 293
  • 91913 in Chula Vista: 293
  • 91911 in Chula Vista: 287

I’ll do some more with these numbers in upcoming posts and stories. Let me know if you have questions about a particular ZIP.
