As I reported earlier this week, there are now two candidates officially competing to fill the school board seat vacated by Mitz Lee in 2008.
In addition to declared candidate Scott Barnett, a former Republican political consultant, Poway-based clinical psychologist John Lee Evans confirmed today that he’s also in.
“I’m definitely running,” he said.
Evans lives in University City and has had three kids go through the San Diego Unified school system. He said his main goals are to encourage teachers and promote parent involvement, in addition to having the school board “become a model for collaboration for the whole system,” which he says is still recovering from the “autocratic years” under former Superintendent Alan Bersin.
“One of the concepts I really want to promote is restoring pride in the neighborhood school,” Evans said.
A Democrat, Evans had earlier signaled his intention to run for the 50th congressional district seat. He said he has now dropped that effort to instead focus on the school board race.
