Rocky Neptun, an activist from City Heights, has filed with the city of San Diego his intention to run for mayor in 2008.
Neptun, who is also registered as a candidate for the District 3 City Council seat next year, is the first to officially challenge Mayor Jerry Sanders. Neptun describes himself as an activist, journalist, landscaper and director of an apartment tenants’ rights group known as the San Diego Renters Union.
A flyer detailing his platform includes arguments for free public transit, establishing a city-owned energy utility, and creating stricter environmental standards for construction, water use and recycling.
Businessman Steve Francis and Councilwoman Donna Frye, who both have said they are considering a run at the Mayor’s Office in 2008, have not filed their intentions with the City Clerk’s Office.
