Police officers arrested 24 individuals for driving under the influence at a checkpoint set up Friday evening on Garnet Avenue in Pacific Beach.

It was a record-breaking night for the DUI team, which impounded all the cars and also arrested three passengers for being drunk in public and being unable to care for themselves.

Here’s a snippet from the police department’s press release about the results:

DUI checkpoint operations are conducted in an effort to educate the public on the critical safety issue of driving under the influence. These checkpoints are also an attempt to remove intoxicated drivers from the roadways, thus creating a safer environment for motorists.

The checkpoints are funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. The next one will be set up on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 10 p.m. at a location to be announced that evening.
