Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007 | voiceofsandiego.org reported that the Charter Review subcommittee on finance recommends that the mayor appoint the Internal Auditor, with confirmation by the council. This committee has a staff report showing how the 12 largest cities in the United States appoint their auditors.

None of them are appointed by the mayor. In San Diego council confirmation is automatic.

But if we used the same system as the rest of the country, we might get an honest financial statement. Unthinkable! We have to live up to our name: Enron by the Sea.
