Poseidon Resources’ proposed Carlsbad desalination plant has two more potential customers: the Santa Fe Irrigation District and the Vallecitos Water District.
The Santa Fe Irrigation District, which serves 22,000 people in Rancho Santa Fe and Solana Beach, agreed to buy about 1.7 million gallons daily from the desalination plant. If approved and constructed, the plant would convert 50 million gallons of seawater into drinking water each day.
The Vallecitos district, which serves 85,000 people in San Marcos, agreed to buy about 6.3 million gallons daily. With the agreement, Poseidon has customers for 90 percent of the water from its plant. The proposal must still be approved by the California Coastal Commission before it can be constructed.
