Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007 | Ed Stovin of the Off-Road Coalition implies that his activities do not infringe other people’s rights. Sadly, I must disagree with Ed’s assumption here. The noise from his motorcycle infringes my rights to enjoy a peaceful walk. The careless use of motorcycles on public land by some off-roaders infringes my rights to have a peaceful walk in a place that is not carved up by dozens of hot, dusty, eroding trails. Off-road use is being shut down in open space areas because it has proved to be excessively destructive to the land, causing problems that have to be fixed with taxpayer’s funds. It destroys vegetation, and causes erosion and destruction of streams.
