Should the City Council decide to authorize a legal brief endorsing same-sex marriage, Mayor Jerry Sanders will veto it, a spokesman said today.
Sanders’ position is consistent with statements he made against same-sex marriage in the 2005 campaign, spokesman Fred Sainz said.
“He made his position clear two years ago when he was asked about this issue,” Sainz said. “In this time in the city’s history, we should be focused on the city’s finances.”
The council will vote on the issue at 2 p.m. at council chambers, located at 202 C St. in downtown San Diego.
