Deputy District Attorney William Gentry has declared his intentions to run for San Diego city attorney in 2008, according to the city clerk.
Gentry is most recently known as the prosecutor in a case involving a deputy sheriff who pleaded guilty to shooting his wife in the mouth at the couple’s Alpine home. Sentencing for that case is scheduled for Oct. 24.
He appears to be a Republican, having given to the San Diego County GOP earlier this year, according to CQ Moneyline.
Gentry is the second attorney intending to run against City Attorney Mike Aguirre next year. Also running is Dan Coffey, a South Bay real estate executive and attorney.
