Mayor Jerry Sanders has shifted his stance on same-sex marriage and is scheduled this evening to sign a legal brief endorsing the marriages that the City Council approved yesterday.
The move marks Sanders’ departure from his pledge to veto it yesterday. The City Council had called on the city to send a letter to the California Supreme Court advocating for a lawsuit that would overturn the state’s ban of same-sex marriage.
The Mayor’s Office said Sanders will explain why he changed his position on the issue at a 5 p.m. press conference at 5 p.m. Check back later for more.
