I just got a press release from the San Diego Police Department. The SDPD’s Street Gang Unit investigators, Gang Suppression Team and Mid-City patrol officers conducted a gang “sweep” in the Mid-City area of San Diego between Thursday and Sunday.
According to the press release, the sweep was intended to quell recent violence between two rival gang sets that had been responsible for three shootings and several recent serious assaults. The press release says the sweep went down peacefully, with no episodes of violence.
Along with the 23 arrests and the firearms, the SDPD also pulled in 550 rounds of ammunition, $11,514 in currency, 51 tabs of ecstasy, 35 grams of marijuana and 1.5 pounds of methamphetamine.
