Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007 | The San Diego Republican Party has embarrassed itself again, and I’m starting to question why I belong. The latest is this stupid charge against City Attorney Mike Aguirre. If he has to leave, then so should every other member of the council whom also accepted contributions from their employees. There seems to be a number of them. Actually, I don’t think we would miss any of them. The party recently endorsed Mayor Jerry Sanders for re-election. He changed his mind about campaign promises made to voters. I voted for him, but I won’t next time. His personal beliefs are fine — but has broken his pledge. Now that the party has gone astray “sold out to large business backers,” I’m changing my party affiliation next time I see a table at the mall.
