My wife, Christin, has been trying to find somewhere to volunteer all week. She’s a special education teacher and has been off work anyway, so she thought she’d try to help out.

On Wednesday, she spent a fruitless three hours in traffic trying to get to Qualcomm Stadium. In the end she gave up when she heard they were turning volunteers away.

Then, yesterday, she called the teachers’ volunteering hotline. They told her to report to a school in Mira Mesa this morning.

She was there, and so were about 15 kids, whom she taught. For two hours. She said the authorities are rationing out the teaching time to two hours per teacher, because there are so many teachers who want to help out.

I thought that was pretty cool.
