The City Council will discuss recycling wastewater to bolster San Diego’s water supply at its meeting this afternoon.
Several council members have expressed support for implementing water reuse, and they decided to resuscitate a dormant discussion on the topic after receiving recent warnings that water could be rationed next year. However, Mayor Jerry Sanders opposes it, saying it’s too expensive. He has also cited the so-called “yuck factor” of recycling wastewater.
The discussion will be focused on a 2006 water reuse report that has never been presented to council members despite their commissioning of the study several years ago.
The presentation takes place at 2 p.m. in the council’s chambers.
