The City Council decided today to hold off on hearing the latest appeal against Doug Manchester’s redevelopment plans for Navy Broadway Complex after City Attorney Mike Aguirre requested the council set aside more time to consider legal issues that have arisen in recent weeks.
Council members referred to Aguirre’s legal advice, which was included in a memo his office issued yesterday, when asking for the delay, but they did not cite the city attorney’s specific concerns.
Steven Strauss, an attorney for Manchester, was upset Aguirre didn’t advise the council sooner after activists appealed this phase of the development three months ago. Assistant City Attorney Karen Heumann said she could not say why the advice came this late in the game.
A new hearing date was set for Dec. 4 at 2 p.m.
