Hey math nerds: If you’re out for a Ph.D. in mathematics education so you can pass your math savvy along to the kiddies, take a look at the joint doctoral program offered by San Diego State University and the University of California San Diego. The American Mathematics Society journal Notices ranked the program 7th nationwide and number 1 in California.

The rankings were conducted in early 2007, based on a national survey of 70 doctoral programs in mathematics education. Such programs are a key part of the national push for more math educators — one of the high-need area for teachers.
