In San Diego County, October’s unemployment rate remained unchanged from September’s 4.8 percent, the state’s Employment Development Department reported today. The rate fit between California’s 5.4 percent and the nation’s 4.4 percent in the same period.
It showed a 1 percent increase over October 2006.
Government reported the strongest job gain — 4,200 jobs — from September to October, with 91 percent of the increase in the public education category, the EDD reported.
Leisure and hospitality lost 4,300 jobs between September and October. The department’s report highlighted the 1,100 jobs lost in amusement and gambling and the 1,700-job loss in food services and drinking places.
From October 2006 to October 2007, employment in the county increased by 13,200 jobs, or 1 percent. Construction posted the biggest losses, shedding 4,700 jobs — 5.1 percent — over the year.
