With the City Council scheduled to consider Monday whether to override Mayor Jerry Sanders’ veto of its sewage recycling pilot program, Independent Budget Analyst Andrea Tevlin says the pilot should move forward.

Sanders has said the pilot program would cost $10 million to $15 million and require another increase in water rates. But Tevlin said in a memo that more precise cost estimates are needed and that rate increases may not be necessary.

While this certainly may be an option, we are not convinced that a rate increase is the only option, particularly given that the true cost of the pilot program is still unknown.
