Friday, Nov. 30, 2007 | The city needs money for fire stations. Raising taxes is not the only solution.

In 2004, both the City Attorney and the Community Development Director suggested we propose amending state law so that tax increment money could be used for public safety. This was met with fierce opposition from CCDC, resulting in the idea being dropped. The City Council takes orders from them and CCDC has more important uses for the money, like $26 million to refurbish the Balboa Theatre. Isn’t that more important than police and fire protection?

When your taxes are raised, you should know it’s not really for police and fire protection, it’s really for this fancy theatre.
