San Diego Unified trustees Katherine Nakamura and John de Beck have replaced Luis Acle and Shelia Jackson as president and vice president, respectively, of the school board, which oversees the second-largest district in the state.
Nakamura’s name emerged after four votes Tuesday night. Jackson, Acle, de Beck and Nakamura consistently voted for themselves to lead the board; Mitz Lee shifted votes. De Beck eventually opted for Nakamura, joining Lee and Nakamura to select her as president.
The vote followed a short public-comment session in which Larry Isom, president of the union that represents custodians and other blue-collar workers, spoke in support of Jackson as president.
