It’s not all up to the port. The California Air Resources Board has developed strict air emission controls for all Ports, diesel engines and ships. Starting in 2009, trucks that service the port will be required to comply. EHC is advocating that the port implement a program before the state deadlines to qualify for Prop 1B funding for affected industries. This is a huge incentive for the port industries and starts to clean the air for the neighborhoods adjacent to the port right away. What a deal!
