San Diego Unified school board members emerged from a closed meeting Friday with no news on the superintendent search. With one candidate already known to the public — Terry Grier, superintendent of Guilford County Schools in North Carolina — parents, school staff and media in both San Diego and Guilford County are eager to hear of the school district’s choice.
In the meantime, interim superintendent Bill Kowba is juggling three jobs. Kowba, the district’s chief financial officer, took on the job of acting chief administrative officer with the departure of Jose Betancourt, who pleaded guilty to federal conflict-of-interest charges. He was selected as interim superintendent in late December, replacing Carl Cohn.
Board members will meet again in closed session Thursday.
