While writing my story about city officials’ water use yesterday, I called Charles Gallagher, spokesman for mayoral candidate Steve Francis, to see whether Francis would authorize the release of his water bills.
The city officials’ bills are public because they set water rates; Francis’ are private — though he can ask the city’s Water Department to release them.
Gallagher talked to Francis, who agreed that he would release his bills.
He just wouldn’t say when. And he wouldn’t do it by our deadline yesterday.
“We are going to release them,” Gallagher said. “We haven’t decided when we’re going to do it. … If we’re out talking transparency, we’re going to live it.”
