Mayoral candidate Steve Francis this week challenged Mayor Jerry Sanders to eight debates — one in each council district — ahead of the June 3 primary election.
In fact, he’s already got a sponsor, the League of Women Voters.
But, as can be expected of a frontrunner and incumbent, Sanders isn’t having it.
“Steve might have the time to debate every week for the next 15 weeks, but the mayor’s got a city to run,” said Kevin Klein, Sanders campaign spokesman.
Klein said Sanders would be amenable to “three or so” debates.
