Last night, deputies from the Encinitas sheriff’s station ran a checkpoint for driving under the influence and driver license manners between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. on the 1100 block of Camino Del Mar in Del Mar.

The department made five arrests for driving under the influence and issued citations to eight motorists for various driving infractions. According to a Sheriff’s Department, 458 vehicles passed through the checkpoint. The department contacted 258 of these drivers.

From a department release:

Due to early arrests, word spread quickly to local bars and restaurants. As a result, an increase in taxi service and designated drivers were observed driving through the checkpoint.
