El Cajon just got a new police chief. Pat Sprecco will replace retiring Police Chief Clifford Diamond, who is retiring after three years heading up the El Cajon Police Department. Chief Sprecco was appointed by El Cajon City Manager Kathi Henry.

Here’s some background on the new chief, from an ECPD press release:

Pat has been with the City of El Cajon Police Department for nearly 36 years as both a volunteer and employee. He first joined the Department as a volunteer Cadet in 1972 at age16. At 18, while attending Grossmont College, he worked as a campus security officer and was later hired part time by the El Cajon Police Department. He then became an El Cajon Police Intern working in Communications, Records, and Investigations and eventually was hired as a Police Officer in 1976. He was promoted to Sergeant in April of 1982, Lieutenant in January of 1993, and appointed Acting Captain in February 2005, then promoted to Captain in January 2006. Pat says he has worked nearly every assignment in the Department during his time with the El Cajon department.

The press release also says Sprecco is the third of 14 children. His father was a reserve police officer and his mother was a deputy sheriff.
