The former top city official who is suing the city of San Diego for wrongful termination and alleging retribution by a top aide to Mayor Jerry Sanders appears to be a supporter of mayoral challenger Steve Francis.

Francis’ website lists a Rick Reynolds as a supporter; it also lists Lance Wade as a supporter.

Former Assistant Chief Operating Officer Rick Reynolds sued the city this week, alleging that it was his registering of concerns regarding the behavior of Sanders spokesman Fred Sainz that led him to be fired.

Reynolds and Wade were asked to resign by Chief Operating Officer Jay Goldstone on the same day last year.

I’ve placed calls into Francis’ campaign and Reynolds for comment but haven’t heard anything back yet.

Update: I spoke with Reynolds, Francis and Francis campaign manager Charles Gallagher. While they said there has been at least one conversation between Francis and Reynolds, they said they haven’t been coordinating together for the campaign or the lawsuit. Reynolds said he met Francis a while ago, but didn’t realize he’d been put on Francis’ site as a supporter.
