Monday, April 7, 2008 | Mayor Sanders’ Chief Operating Officer Jay Goldstone says the SEC action today, naming five former city employees who were dishonest in reporting the city’s true financial shambles when seeking bond-issuing status, “is unprecedented in my experience….” and notes the government agency did not act so severely even against Orange County (which, unlike San Diego today, responsibly declared bankruptcy and worked its way out of insolvency.)

Well, Mr. Goldstone and Mayor Sanders and Scott Peters and Brian Maienschein: it’s “unprecedented” in the San Diego taxpayers’ experience, too, but fortunately we have an election coming when we can begin to set things right.
