The San Diego County Democratic Club, a local gay rights advocacy group, plans to announce tomorrow that it considers District 5 candidate Carl DeMaio an “unacceptable” choice for city council.

The group is upset that DeMaio has received financial support from hotelier Doug Manchester, who recently helped fund a campaign aiming to put a same-sex marriage ban on the November ballot. The organization was also irked when DeMaio reportedly failed to return a candidates’ questionnaire, said club member Tom Dicioccio.

DeMaio, an openly gay man, received $270, the district-wide donation limit, from both Manchester and his wife, Elizabeth.

The Democratic Club’s list of endorsements features DeMaio’s name with a black line through it. In red letters next to his name is the word “Unacceptable.”

The organization is scheduled to hold a news conference at 10 a.m. tomorrow outside the Manchester Grand Hyatt.
