School board member Luis Acle is disqualified from running as a write-in candidate after failing to gather 200 valid signatures by Tuesday, ending his bid to keep his own seat on the San Diego Unified school board.

A latecoming challenger, union organizer Albert Velasquez, likewise failed to qualify.

Richard Barrera, a Democrat, will be the only candidate listed on the June primary ballot.

Update: Due to information given by the Registrar of Voters, the original version of this post incorrectly stated that Alan Charles Elliott successfully gathered the required signatures to be a write-in candidate for the school board. In fact, he will be a candidate for the San Diego Community College District board, not the school board.
