Wednesday, June 4, 2008 | Election Central in downtown San Diego is always full of very expressive faces. It is always interesting to see who makes it to Golden Hall to talk to a row of reporters and mingle with the crowd. Generally those who don’t meet their goals for the day are more shy and unwilling to show up and the proud victors revel in the parade.
But there are exceptions to that rule.
Though he secured a spot in the runoff election to protect his job, for example, City Attorney Mike Aguirre was not to be found in San Diego Tuesday. No Aguirre placards competed with those of his rivals. There was no word on whether he followed the results from New Jersey where he had attended his daughter’s graduation from Princeton University.
Council President Scott Peters, on the other hand, showed up to try to put a good face on his disappointment.
Mayoral candidate Steve Francis attempted to maintain optimism as the results showed that his run appeared to be coming up short. And, at the same time, Mayor Jerry Sanders couldn’t hold in the amusement he was experiencing with the victory.
It was a great night to capture these faces. Here is a sample of those images.
