We are pleased to introduce our readers to the newest addition to the voiceofsandiego.org family, Darryn Bennett.
Darryn (no relation to fellow staff writer Kelly Bennett) will spearhead voiceofsandiego.org‘s nascent efforts to cover San Diego’s influential and important science and technology community.
San Diego researchers and entrepreneurs are doing amazing, controversial and sometimes overlapping work in the technological field. This work is undoubtedly generating incredible stories of triumph, discovery, innovation and even controversy and scandal. And, what better time for Darryn to start, with the BIO International Convention kicking off here in San Diego?
Darryn, a graduate of San Diego State University, worked as a staff writer at the North County Times from October 2007 until Friday. She made a quick name for herself with her investigative reporting into Supervisor Bill Horn. The battle between the paper and the politician also became a story, as our media columnist, Seth Hettena, detailed in this column.
On the beat, she replaces Joaquin Sapien, who after a brief tenure here got snapped up by the new nonprofit investigative reporting outfit ProPublica out of New York City led by former Wall Street Journal managing editor Paul Steiger.
We’re very excited to have Darryn aboard; please join us in us in welcoming her. Today is her first day.
